Did you know? Some houses date back over 100 years, these particular houses have systems which initially would only have one external toilet and one kitchen sink and the underground drains would act accordingly with this limited discharge.

What about today?
Fast forward 100 years and we now have in some cases more than one bathroom, en-suites, several toilets, basins, washing machine, dishwashers. All this discharge going to an underground drainage system which was only ever designed and installed to cope with one toilet and one kitchen sink. Unfortunately, over time, this can cause the drainage system to leak which sadly goes unnoticed, this continual leaking starts to decay the underlying brickwork resulting in damp, cracking and structural defects not to mention the drainage system itself. As we often say drains are boring smelly things until they go wrong.
If ever you’re buying or thinking of buying a relatively old property always, always, have a CCTV survey, not necessarily by us but if there are defects there its defiantly better to be aware of them before you purchase the property. We, unfortunately, see a fair few customers who have recently bought new houses and they have to use their new decorating/conservatory/driveway budget towards a new section or a new drainage system completely.
